So when the Project350z was purchased in Colorado back in January it had a Nismo Cold Air Intake on it. Shortly thereafter I moved to California, and guess what? The Nismo isn’t CARB legal, which means it isn’t legal for use in the State of California, so off the intake came.

And there it sat. and sat. and sat some more. Until today, I finally decided to pull it out of the box and put it up on Ebay. So there it is, sitting on Ebay, have at it!

Nissan sent out an online survey asking about warranty and battery life for the Nissan Leaf.

From reading through the survey it looks like they are considering 5yr/60k warranties, or 8yr/100k warranties.

There is definitely a lot of information in the survey, and they ask a lot of "what would it take to make you not buy a Leaf". I was pretty strict on I won't accept a 5yr/60k mile warranty, I have no interest in the risk of being an early adopter of the Nissan Leaf if they aren't going to back the product with a very rigid warranty.

Here are a couple more screenshots from the Survey

What was your overall response to the survey? Did you get it today? Did you fill it out? What do you think the Warranty should be?

It was a great day for future leaf owners down in San Jose. A group of us met up at the LiveStrong Challenge event going on down there today and tomorrow to check out the Nissan Leaf that was on display.

Fun was had by all, though MsLusty is still there trying to find the Tailpipe on the Nissan Leaf.

I got down there around 10am and started testing out the camera on the Leaf. The Setup was similar to what they had at the Amgen Tour Of California back in May, though they tweaked the layout a bit. Lighting wasn't great for photos today, way too much sun on half the car, and none on the other half of the car, but I tried to make due.

Lunch was provided by Brendan from Boardwalk Nissan, a huge thanks to him for that! Word he was able to pass on as well is that Boardwalk will not be marking up the price on the Leaf over MSRP! That's great news for all of us in the Bay Area looking forward to buying from boardwalk.

Nissan Leaf DashboardWith the help of the lunch Brendan provided we managed to talk the reps into opening the Leaf up for us to take some photos of in inside, something that wasn't possible at the Tour of California.

At the end of the day those of us remaining posed for a group shot outside of the car.

Check out all the photos we took at the event, and possibly look for them via some other venues soon!

It looks like the announcement from Coulomb came out today, though they haven't come out and said anything official (from what I can find) about if they will be giving some free chargers out for home use. You can "Request" or suggest a location for their Chargepoint network, I've done it, not sure it will work or not, but worth a shot.

So apparently Coulomb Technologies will be announcing (on Thursday July 8th) that they received a grant to install 1600 charging stations in certain parts of California. I’m not quite clear on if these will be home charging stations or something else, but if they are home stations let me be first on the list!

I’m in the target area, between San Francisco and San Jose! Apparently they will also be available in Sacramento and Los Angeles. If anyone from Coulomb reads this, consider me totally interested. I’ll gladly share all sorts of data! :)

So last year, shortly after I moved from St. Louis to Denver, I went back to St. Louis to present at the 2nd St. Louis Day of .Net. Now, having moved from Colorado to California I’m headed back to St. Louis again. Once again presenting at the St. Louis Day of .Net, August 20-21, 2010. I will be presenting my crowd favorite DotNetNuke Best Practices session, the same one, possibly tweaked a bit, I delivered in Toronto in May. This session always seems to go over well with DNN people, old and new alike.

There are a few other “big name” DotNetNuke speakers who are also rumored to be attending and submitting sessions for this year’s Day of .Net. They are still taking speaker submissions (deadline unknown?), so if you want to present a DotNetNuke session be sure to get your submissions in quick!

If you aren’t up for speaking at the event you can still attend! What good are speakers if there is no audience? Get working on your boss/employer now, start the thought process of getting them to pay for the event. At the $125 price you are going to see a plethora of great sessions about DotNetNuke and other great topics.

If you can get away from work for the event (it’s actually a two day event) I highly encourage you to check out the St. Louis Day of .Net.

You can find more info about the event at http://www.stlouisdayofdotnet.com, be sure to check out their website, guess what it runs on? DotNetNuke of course! (Site designed and developed by Cuong Dang of R2integrated.)

Last week sometime, perhaps the week before, I got an email from INETA reminding me to get my submissions in for the INETA Community Champions contest for Q2 2010. I last entered Community Champion info for the Q4 2008 contest, in which I was graciously awarded a prize. Being ineligible for a year after winning I failed to keep up with all my various entries.

So the recent email got me going, I thought, boy I hope I can pull all my Community-Credit.com data over to the INETA Community Champions program, to which I found out you can’t. The programs aren’t currently linked, as they once were. That was a shame as I am pretty good about getting all my community related activities into Community-Credit.com, even though David Silverlight has basically had the site shutdown for over a year now, I figured if he ever turned it back on I would be all set!

I figured I would just get my Community-Credit info from the website manually and manually put it into the INETA Community Champions program, no such luck on that either. Something on www.community-credit.com is hosed because you can’t pull up results for anything you’ve done since July of 2009, last month it was June of 2009, and next month it will be August of 2009.

So in comes the API for CC. I have a codeplex project I created long ago for a simple DotNetNuke module that works with community-credit.com, I host an instance of the module on my site (on a restricted page of course) so that I can quickly enter all my activities via the API, which makes all my forum posting on DotNetNuke.com very easy to track. So I got to thinking, I know that the website is busted, but I wonder if the API itself works?

A few code tweaks to my module (uploaded to codeplex, vs2010 project) and boom, I was able to easily pull back a list of all my community-credit submissions over a specified date range, even for time within the past 12 months.

Then it was just a matter of filtering through that list of info to get the INETA related activities, user group organization, newsletters, meetings, speaking engagements, etc. I had a busy year! Between moving to Colorado last August and starting a DotNetNuke user group in Denver, speaking there, at the Denver User Group, DevConnections last fall, then moving to California and starting up the Bay Area DNN User’s Group and presenting at the Toronto DNN User Group, I had a lot of submissions to get caught up on. I also realized I completely left out my sessions at SDN in The Netherlands last December!

Nonetheless, yesterday I was honored to receive an email from INETA telling me that I was once again a Community Champion

INETA Community Champions

What is an INETA Community Champion? Check out their website for more info, http://www.inetachamps.com/ If you are active in the .NET development community I encourage you to get your submissions in for Q3 2010. It’s a lot easier to enter them over time, as you do activities, then it is at the last minute, trust me!

Thanks again to INETA for putting on the Champs program. I look forward to trying to keep my activities up to date so that the next time I’m eligible I’m ready and waiting!

PS- if you are interested in checking out my CommunityCredit module on codeplex feel free to get the source and start playing with it. It isn’t pretty, and you likely will need to remove the Engage: Publish reference that is in there. In a future release I will likely pull that out of the project completely. It’s the Blog engine that powers my website at www.chrishammond.com and I think I just came up with a better way to get the info into community-credit.com for my blog posts ;)

So I had my home charging assessment this afternoon for my Nissan Leaf order. Here's a quick overview of what happened, and what I learned.

I had a local electrician come by, as well as a representative from Aerovironment. I wouldn't expect everyone is going to have an AV rep at their assessment, but because today was the first day they were checking out some of the assessments to see how things can be streamlined.

So the first thing the electrician did was take a picture of the house and address. Then he inspected the box where the electrical meter is located and verified that the overall capacity of the house was fine, ours was with a 100amp (remember I'm no electrician so what I say may be totally wrong). From there he took a picture of the box and meter, then moved into the house to find the sub panel, the circuit breaker for the house. His first thought was that I would have to replace the panel entirely because it is full and old. Fortunately I showed him that we have a 220v hookup for an electric dryer that isn't being used, which means we should be able to pull the 30amp breaker for that and replace it with the required 40amp breaker that the Leaf charger will need.

He looked around the garage, told us where he would suggest installing the charger, and then let me choose where I would like it installed. We talked about the pros/cons of various locations, the main con being the 15' charging cord that will run across the floor when the car is plugged in.

The Aerovironment rep asked me a few questions such as how I thought Nissan was doing with the Leaf as a whole, to which I said I was pleased. He also made notes about items he would follow up with his supervisor on, questions the electrician had about the paperwork he had, as well as some other general things that he thinks might make the overall process smoother.

The last thing that the electrician did was hung up a "sticker" to mark where the Charger would go. He then took a picture of that, I also took my own picture, of course
Assessment mounting location #leaf

So what's next? Well apparently the assessment will be sent to AV once the local electrician fills out all the paperwork. Then they will send me a quote for how much it is going to cost to do the installation. I think it looks to be pretty straightforward for our house, so hopefully it's not a price proposition.

We've got the scoop, hear it here first! Check out the new Nissan Leaf iAd announcement and video!

I must say, after watching this, as a die-hard Android user I have to think maybe a iPhone would work? bah I can't think like that

Nissan and its zero-emission Nissan LEAF are proud to be one of the first brands and the only automotive brand to date to use Apple’s innovative iAd for iPhone.  Just like the iPhone, Nissan LEAF is 100% electric and 100% in demand as the world’s first mass-production, zero-emission car.  iAds will help Nissan continue to reach the early adopters and target customers who have already placed more than 15,000 reservations for the Nissan LEAF, which will be available beginning in December with full mass-market availability by 2012.

The video demonstrates the functionality that the new iAd format - - launching TODAY July 1 by Apple for iPhone - - offers the millions of iPhone users interested in learning more about Zero Emission Mobility and the new Nissan LEAF.

We're in the early phases of planning a little gathering in San Jose on July 10th. There will be a Leaf on static display at a Livestrong event down there.

I'm thinking 10 or 11am, but need to find more information about the event.

Thanks to Brendan Dolan from Boardwalk Nissan for the tip on the event!

Stay tuned for more info as we get the planning together! If you're interested in attending please reply to this thread!

So the Nissan Leaf Charging assessment appointments are starting up next week (as far as we know) and we are interested in hearing from you how things go.

We are having our inspection on 7/1, will be taking pictures and tweeting all the action on @leafowner. We expect to get an estimate in the range of $2k-$3k for the installation, fortunately the breaker is right in the garage on the front wall, and we are hoping that makes things easier and cheaper!

Do you have an earlier appointment? If so let us know, we're love to hear from you when it occurs, as would the rest of the users here on LeafOwner.com. What are you expecting from the appointment?

So I was kind of stoked, Sirius XM finally has an Android Application. I thought cool, now I can listen to Sirius in my 350z which doesn’t have satellite radio at the moment, while our F250 does. So I went to the Android Marketplace, and guess what? It is nowhere to be found, nowhere.

So then I thought, okay, I’ll look it up online, found it, and if you want it you can simply go to http://www.siriusxm.com/android but before you visit that URL check out the rest of this blog post and read why I won’t be using SiriusXM on the Android, at least not anytime soon.

So I’m a Sirius subscriber, I have been since October when we got the F250, and prior to that I was an XM radio subscriber, since 2003 or possibly earlier. Well, I went to download the Droid app today, and see that you can get a 7 day free trial, I thought, okay, that’s cool, they are trying to get new subscribers, a valid endeavor.

But then I started to realize, after digging into SiriusXm.com (and spending 30 minutes trying to get into my account) that my subscription that I have, doesn’t include internet service! Crap, so I went to add it, $3/month! What? I’m already paying $15/month for a car that we barely drive here in California and barely touch the service, and now I have to pay another $3 a month? I’m already paying $15 a month to Zune for the Zune Pass (well worth the investment in my personal opinion).

I’m also paying $40/year to Pandora for access to their streaming application for my Droid, and I gotta say, that rocks as well! I drove across the country a couple times this spring using the Pandora app as my source of media in the 350Z and the F250 and it was awesome!

So, Sirius, I highly doubt you will see an additional $3/mo from me, a long time subscriber. In fact, when that F250 gets sold or traded in we will likely drop your service all together. I’ll get by just fine with my Verizon 3G service and Pandora, and use my Zunes to fill in the gaps where the service goes away, though being off of AT&T has definitely improved our cell phone coverage!

Alright, that’s it, this post probably should of gone to TheMadBlogger, but I posted it here on my personal site nonetheless.

Did you get the same email? When did you get scheduled for? Did anyone get turned off by the additional $100 charge to set this up?

So back in 1994 my dad purchased my brother and I a car to drive. My brother wanted a bug, I actually wasn’t a big fan, but I wasn’t one to turn down a free ride. Long story short, my brother never drove the thing and the car became mine. I had the car for 7 years, it got me everywhere, it came to Missouri for college, it made it through most of college unscathed (except for a few drunk fraternity brothers of mine who decided to role a tire down the driveway right into the door), side note, they never did fess up to that one.

In the summer of 1998 the car got some love, it went to Sedalia Missouri and got a complete body overhaul, with wide fiberglass fenders and a new paint job, it also got some new wheels and eventually seats, headliner, and carpeting.

It was my first car, but it was sold on Ebay back in June 2001, my parents were moving on from Missouri and I was driving a 94 Golf (for another week or so before I got the Z-28) so the Super Beetle wasn’t getting much love back then. I couldn’t afford to keep it and my parents wanted to sell it.

So it went on ebay, and someone somewhat local purchased it, a guy out of Alton Illinois. I’ve always wondered what happened to the car after that, I always kept an eye out for it when driving around Alton, even as recent as last year when Kevin and I rented Harleys for the weekend, but I never did spot the car.

I’ve also always tried to dig through old emails, but I was missing a chunk of emails from November 1999 to sometime in 2002, I pretty much have every email I’ve ever received or sent since 1998, possibly even earlier, except for that missing window. Well, tonight I found those missing emails! I was going through old hard drives and finally located a PST with the missing emails, I was able to figure out who I sold the car to! At least, with an email address.

Well, that email address, @hotmail.com, no longer worked, but with a little more digging I found the name of the guy, and I think I even found him on facebook tonight! I sent him a message, we’ll see where it goes. I don’t exactly have the means right now to purchase and ship the car to California, where we now live (about 80 miles from where we originally purchased the car), but if I could get it purchased back from the guy I am sure I could find a place to store it in Missouri until the time came that I had a place for it out here.

I’ve owned a lot of cars since this Super Beetle left my life, never one as long as this car was in my life. We will see, I would love to get the car back, I only hope I have the opportunity to do so!

Here’s a photo of what it looked like after the restore back in 1998/1999 (photo from April 2000)

So this is the third and final post in the module development series of blogs I started last week. The first two covered

  1. Configuring your development environment
  2. Customizing and installing a C# module development template

This post is going to tell you how to utilize an open source project called NAnt to package up your modules quickly and easily, so that they can be installed on various DotNetNuke sites. The C# module development template that I released last week comes with a NAnt BUILD script included, so when you create a project using the template (as we do in blog #2) you are ready to use NAnt to package the module, you must get NAnt configure though, so let’s walk through that process.

So there has been some discussion here on LeafOwner.com about the potential that dealers will try to price gouge when the Leaf comes out. I recently went to visit a local Nissan Dealer, Boardwalk Nissan in Redwood City and will admit I didn't have the best of experiences, they didn't have ANY info on the Leaf at the time, I am hoping that has changed, so I just reached out to a sales guy who contacted me due to the previous sales guy I was dealing with having left.

So here's what I emailed the guy, I'll post back to this thread later when I hear back, assuming I hear back.

NAME REMOVED,

Thanks for the phone call last night. I do have a few questions that I could use your assistance.

I have money down on a Leaf (I paid $99 back on 4/20), I realize they aren't going to be available until December, but was wondering if you had any more info about them?

Here's what I currently know. By the end of this month Nissan will be contacting me to give me more info. Sometime this summer they will send out an electrician to the house to see if installing a charger is possible or not, and to give an estimate of what that cost will be. This fall they are going to be doing some driving promotions where you can test drive a Leaf. This fall those who are interested will work with a dealer to purchase the car. Then sometime starting in December a lucky few who preordered the Leaf will get them delivered, I am hoping because we are in the bay area that I have a good shot at getting one of the first, also because I preregistered very early on.

I am looking for a dealer who is going to sell me a Leaf at or below MSRP, I am not willing to pay a markup cost for this car, and I will find a dealer that will sell me one at a good price, even if I have to tow the car home to do it. I would hope that Boardwalk Nissan can do this, but I have never purchased a car from you guys so I don't know what to expect yet.

I'm a Nissan kind of guy, I have a 350z currently (my second one) and I've owned a 240z and 280z as well. My wife and I were in at Boardwalk looking at Jettas, that was for her as a replacement for the F-250 she drives right now (for that horse trailer we talked about). The Leaf would be my commuter car if I get one.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

Have you reached out to a dealer? Had any luck?

Two days ago I posted a blog about configuring a DotNetNuke development environment, in preparation for today’s blog post about a C# module development template that I recently released on Codeplex. So today’s blog post is about how to utilize the template, customizing the VSTemplate file to fit your needs with company name, namespace, email, and URL. Installing the template, and then creating a quick and easy module using the template.

If you haven’t read my post about setting up your development environment I encourage you to do so before proceeding, as the steps I’m going to walk you through below assume you are running a similar environment to me. The following assumes you are using DotNetNuke V5+ and Visual Studio 2008, if you are using an older version of DNN and Visual Studio there are no guarantees that this template will do anything for you except cause pain. It’s time to upgrade folks! DNN 5 rocks!

So this is the first in a series of promised blog posts that I am long overdue on! These posts are a follow up to a Beginning DotNetNuke Module Development webinar that we provided back on May 17th. If you didn’t attend the webinar you missed out, but you do get to benefit from these blog posts if you want to easily get setup and running with C# module development for DotNetNuke.

This first post will be discussing the development environment that I configure when I am doing DotNetNuke module development, in addition to this post I’ve got a post about a free Visual Studio template that I am releasing on Codeplex that makes setting up your first DNN module very easy. As well as another blog post about using NANT to automate the packaging of your DNN modules so that you can easily deploy them to other environments.

So it’s been a while since I’ve done any updates here on Project350z.com, so here’s a quick update. The car has been doing well the past few months but at this point has been relegated to strictly commuter duty, and it will likely be that way for a while now. Though I do hope to hit an event or two here in the coming months, hopefully on towards the end of June and another 2 or 3 in July.
