Unblocking MSN Messenger

Monday, August 9, 2004 (Updated 1/23/2008)

As most corporate networks are opening up to allowing their employees to use MSN Messenger, my former employer, has gone and blocked it! Shortly after I left they started blocking their staff who had previously been able to access  MSN Messenger from within the walls of the office, from accessing MSN.

Well guess what! Now you can use MSN Messenger via the Web! check out

and chat away!

Update (12-27-06): For those of you who can't get to the web messenger site, I've heard rumors of there being a plugin for your google homepage that allows you to sign into MSN messenger and get around any corporate/school firewalls that are blocking MSN Messenger. I've yet to try it myself, but you may find it useful.

hey, guys, do we actually get replies for this? mail me on [email protected] or my mates, [email protected] with a reply... oh, and another way to unblock messanger is: If you have command prompt. Type in cd till you get C:\\ or something like that. Then type "PING" without the " Then type in messenger.microsoft.net It should say pinging, blah blah blah, and go on till its unblocked. If this doesn't work, then you're admin or who ever controls everything, is smarter and more annoying then they seem. Another site is phonefox.com e-mesenger.net www3.msn. (eh, can't remember the rest but its like tsc or something) and theres more if you go to anetforums.com Good luck!

hey, looks u all got the same prob lol. 1 way to unblock msn is to go internet explorer, tools, internet options, content, enable, then you type in your supervisor password then its pretty much str8 forward from there. hope that helps Sophie xXx

I'm not sure that everyone can uses it same me,I try the way to unblock msn many times.I finally,however, I can chatting msn everytimes just I want even if it is has blocked. please try this following: 1. click on tools--->internet options 2. click connections--->lan setting 3. you fill in proxy address and port that you know. Note that if you don't know or want it please use google to help you...becuase I use thgis way to chat on msn and after you did it don't forget to clear history and everything before ( this like hacker). try it out. Good luck.

If you try to open Run Dialog box and write Msmsgs in there you might be able to open msn messenger if not try to go in to registry by typing regedit in the run box in there go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/policies/microsoft/messenger/client and in there preventrun and preventautorun should be set to zero exit the registry..Try to open msn again through run dialog box by typing in msmsgs and i hope you will be able to get to the messenger..

for all you bored kids, i have to say i found all your whinging amusing, messenger is more a bitch to unblock than you realise, because the messenger service is disabled within the admin window under service, normally it is set to automatic, but if its disabled your screwed and need to find a way round the registry.....however for bebo and face book and yourtube, thats easy.....

I dont know how to unblock websites but alot of the time, you can go to what ever web messenger site thats blocked and where it says http:// put an "s" so it will look like https:// its a secure site thing, and its not block able... some computer tecs can have it detoured though so make sure you dont get caught.

You could use FireChat its still in testing but its a java version of msn that can be used inside or outside of firefox. added bouns is that it can never be blocked

Okay, so my school has just upgraded to LightSpeed. This thing blocks anything and everything good:( I want to use MSN and Facebook but it wont let me.
