I see that the GoPro HD Hero2 came out with a new Firmware update on 12/15/2011. I’ve been waiting for a firmware update to enable the 3d functionality on the new cameras since I received them back in November.

I installed the Firmware update using CineForm Studio (see the steps to upgrade the firmware (as of 12/16/2011) below.

The best I can tell, this V.58 firmware update does not enable the 3D functionality on the Hero2. I spent some time playing around with it, and was unable to get the two cameras to properly sync up when connected with the sync cable. First I could only get one to boot up, but I was eventually able to get both booted after removing the sync cable and inserting it again.

I would love to try to record Christmas this year in 3d, though I doubt we’ll see another firmware update again before the end of the year. I think V.58 was released to fix some exposure issues on time lapse caused by a previous update, but I don’t know that for sure.

Hopefully in the future GoPro will take the time to post a Changelog for their Firmware updates.

Steps to upgrade GoPro HD Hero2 Firmware (follow at your own risk)

  1. Have CineForm Studio installed on your computer
  2. Turn off, un plug, have a full charge and SD card in the camera, have CineForm Studio off
  3. Turn on your HD Hero2
  4. Plug the camera into your computer via USB
  5. Open CineForm Studio
  6. Wait for the update available message to appear (if there is one)
  7. Click update

Please follow the directions carefully, and check http://gopro.com/support/hd-hero2-firmware-update/ for further instructions.

I am not responsible if you damage your camera (I’ve done it before to my own camera)

I think this is the fourth or fifth week of the show, and I must say I am still in love with it. Wipeout is a hilarious show. I've watched I believe every episode this summer, and while the show changes a little bit each week it is funny every time. If you haven't seen it before I highly recommend watching it next Wednesday on ABC.
I must say, last week I though Wipeout was a darn funny show. This week, it is just as funny, this show is great!
So sometime last year, I, as most motorheads, heard about Eddie Griffen wrecking a Ferrari Enzo at some driving event. The car was owned by the director of a movie called Redline, a movie that Eddie was in, and this driving event was supposed to be a promotion for. I think Eddie wrecking the car must of been the best promotion this movie ever could have asked for, because the movie itself sucked. The thing only grossed 6 million dollars, after a 4 million dollar opening weekend, that should tell you something. From the IMDB page it looks like the estimated budget was 26 million. This movie was horrible, I can't believe how bad it was. The quality of the picture was very good, clear, crisp, but the story, racing, lines were just plain idiotic. I can't believe a movie like this was even made.
Natalie and I were planning on heading off tonight to see Indiana Jones, but ran into a wall. We both crashed and fell asleep after a long day. I woke up and now am getting caught up on a the Elite XC fight that I set to record tonight on CBS. This is a first for MMA as they have a national audience on network TV. It will be interesting to see what the response is.
Well, I must say, I was siding with HD-DVD in the format wars. I picked up an HD-DVD drive for my Xbox 360 last August at the time for a very good deal (Best Buy had incorrect prices). I'm sure now though the prices will drop quite a bit. It looks like I'll get a Blu-Ray drive sometime, I'm not sure when, definitely not in a rush right now as I don't get time to watch the HD-DVDs that I've purchased. At some point I'll look into drives, probably just going with a PS3 to knock it all out in one shot. Don't think I won't buy anymore HD-DVDs though, I'll definitely keep an eye out for deals on movies over the next few months. I have the player, I may as well buy the media.
So I just watched the new Knight Rider. I really don't know what the deal with the show is. There was some HORRIBLE CGI in the show, at one point they zoomed out on the car driving down a desert road. As the road got smaller I swear the car stayed the same, to where it was taking up 3/4ths of the road! The story was alright, though I'm lost. Is this a new show? Or was this a 2 hour movie? It was promod as both, but makes no mention, and I can't find any, about upcoming episodes.
The Fourth Season of LOST started tonight. After LOST was the premier of the new show Eli Stone, during the commercial breaks for Eli Stone there were commercials for Oceanic Air, the airline of the doomed flight on LOST. The URLS in the commercial were flyoceanicair.com and a hidden one find815.com. I'm assuming www.find815.com is out of bandwidth as I can't get the darn URL to load! Perhaps it will work tomorrow.
I was just wondering myself when there will be a larger Hard Drive for the Xbox 360, the current 20gb version is pathetic, especially considering my Zune has 30gb!  (At least the Xbox 360 works with Windows Vista) I found a few rumors floating around that perhaps a larger drive is in the works. "At a recent Microsoft event to promote upcoming games and the new Video-On-Demand service, a retail Xbox 360 unit was shown with an 80GB hard drive installed. While it's 20GB short of the previously rumoured 100GB hard drive, it still offers a fourfold increase in storage capacity for users to download their new content onto. As with the stock 20GB hard drive, a portion will be allocated for system use. Nevertheless, the photo shown is purportedly of a stock Xbox 360 with an upgraded drive.More detailed space requirements for the new Video-On-Demand service have come to light as well. A 44-minute TV episode weighs in at approximately 550MB in 480p widescreen and just under 2GB in 720p format. Movies are much larger with a two-hour movie reaching 1.7GB for a 480p version and 6GB for the 720p version. Although the Xbox 360 recently gained the ability to output 1080p, no content has been offered yet at this resolution. Also being shown off was the HD-DVD drive in its retail packaging and in action." This video alone will most likely make me buy this game, Gears of War, which comes out Today/Tuesday. Luckily for me I'm not home to buy it until Thursday. Also, in other Xbox News apparently you'll be able to download TV shows on your 360 soon. I look forward to...

I've had no luck with Charter and Directv Customer service over the past month. Here's a letter I sent to Charter this morning via their website. "I'd like to know how Charter is going to make me a happy customer. Here's my story.During the storms in July I lost my Directv service. They were unable to come out and restore my service in a timely manner, totally missing an appointment. I called charter, was told I could get a DVR, Digital Cable, and HD service installed at my house the following week, all for a good low price based on the fact that I was leaving Directv.Fast forward three weeks, that's today. So far all I have is a digital cable box, no HD and no DVR, and a $350 bill from charter. When the technician came to install the DVR and Cable box he showed up without either piece of equipment and told me I would have to go to charter's offices myself. I went there, and was told I couldn't get the DVR. That $350 bill includes charges for the DVR, cable service, and $100 of installation charges. I was told when I signed up my installation would be waived due to me switching from Directv.I'd love for someone from Charter to call me and schedule an appointment for my DVR to be DELIVERED and INSTALLED. I tried picking it up myself two weeks ago and was told I couldn't as it had to be professionaly installed. Then, last week I was told they were out of stock in STL, though when I ordered they were in stock.I'm extremely unhappy with the level of service I've received thus far, and if these matters are not corrected, all the promised equipment installed and working by Friday the 18th of August I'll be cancelling ALL my services with Charter and going to SBC and Dish networks.Unhappily,Chris...

XM Radio signed Oprah Winfrey to a 3 year deal worth 55 Million dollars. That's awesome, not that I will ever listen to Oprah, but that is a great move for XM Radio. Down with the Sirius and that dumbass Howard Stern! Long live XM...
So far I've watched probably 16 hours of the Olympics in HD. I really hope I can cut back during the week, I have other shows to...

At CES yesterday Microsoft announced they've made a partnership with Directv and their Windows Media Center platform. I hope this turns out to be an awesome arrangement, as I currently subscribe to Directv and their HD service, and currently Windows Media Center lacks HD capabilities except of off the air broadcasts. I realize it'll be a while before this all comes to be, but it should be an amazing platform once integration...
At CES this evening it was announced that the Xbox 360 will get a HD-DVD external drive attachment later this year! Good news for 360 Owners. Now if they would just upconvert regular DVDs as...
Bill Gates' webcast is still on for his Keynote at CES in Las Vegas today. So far they're just discussing Windows Vista, which I expected. I read a rumor online that they may announce an HD-DVD upgrade for 360s, it looks like that was just a rumor. Sure I'm excited about Vista, but who really cares until it's available? I try a beta on a test machine sometime in the next few weeks, but honestly, I'm a what can you give me now kind of tech guy. Hmmm, they made some sort of preview of MS Flight Sim, but of course my SBC DSL dropped the connection during that outage. update: looks like Bill just announced the new Treo Smartphone is selling tomorrow. I don't know if that was announced previously. update2: Awesome news! Directv and MS partnership! Media center is going to rock once you have Directv access as well! update3: Xbox360 update coming shortly! update4: third manufacturering partner announced for the 360. update 5: external HD DVD announced for xbox...
Christmas was good this year! Natalie and I both spoiled each other rotten! I just installer her new car stereo into the F350. The stock stereo was hurting! It only had AM/FM, no CD or Tape! I got her a nice Sony CD Player for the dash, two new kicker speakers for the front doors, and an XM Roady2 for the must have Satellite radio. There's no Sirius in this household, down with Howard Stern and Sirius Radio! I installed the CD player this evening and made sure everything worked. It's a very clean install, you have to love Crutchfield for including everything you could need to install a radio ordered from them. The new CD player went right in the old unit's place courtesy of the Crutchfield mounting hardware. I also picked up some fine jewelery from Krekeler Jewelers for Natalie's Christmas gifts. Thanks to Jeff for all the help picking a few nice things out!  Natalie spoiled me with some new Oakleys, a cool North Face Jacket, and the Klipsch floor speakers I'd been asking for! The new speakers sound amazing in front of the 50" plasma! I've ordered the Klipsh C-3 center channel speaker from Best Buy using some great gift cards I received. Sometime later this year I'll get the new receiver and 4 surround sound speakers to complete my new and improved home theater setup. My parents sent me money to purchase an aircompressor and some tools for the garage, so I was out looking at Sears today. I did realize however, I'm going to need to take the truck next time I go, as the air compressors won't fit in the 350Z! Thanks to everyone for the great Christmas. Natalie and I spent our first of many Christmas' together, hopefully next year we'll be able to see our parents though, it was my first Xmas away from my family :( More to come in...
